	Horse Dance By John Neihardt and Barbara Price-Rees, and illustrated by Barbara Horse Dance is a stimulating account of the great vision received by the Lakota visionary and healer, Nicholas Black Elk (1863-1950) in his own words, and the first enactment of that vision seven years later. This was first recorded by the distinguished poet, writer, and critic John G. Neihardt in 1930 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He conveyed Black Elk’s experiences as a very powerful and inspirational message for all humankind, in Black Elk Speaks. As related by John Neihardt, Black Elk’s visions of the unity of humanity and the earth, have made the story a spiritual classic. When Black Elk received this great vision, white settlers were invading the Lakota’s homeland, decimating the buffalo herds, and threatening to extinguish the Lakota’s way of life. The Indian nation resisted and that resulted in a remarkable victory at Wounded Knee. Since that time, the Horse Dance ceremony has been enacted to bring empowerment to groups of people in different parts of the world. The message of the Great Vision is very relevant to the times in which we live.I have included insights on the Great Vision and Horse Dance ceremony.
